Both attractive and functional, this aquarium background features reticulated foam construction–the same material used in regular filters. The item comes handcrafted without the use of molding tools, pressure, or heat as these processes would seal the foam. Water is able to naturally circulate through the background, which harbors nitrifying bacteria to support filtration, improving the quality of the water in the aquarium. For added convenience, the background does not require cleaning and can be used in either freshwater or saltwater. In the event of algae in a freshwater tank, introducing a fish called Flying Foxes restores the background in about a week. In marine tanks, use the equivalent type of fish or shrimp to assist in algae removal.
